GermyDesigns

Hi there.

Germaine here.

I’m a freelance digital designer living in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I specialise in event branding, and you could say that creating killer print products and web graphics is what gets me up in the morning. (That and top-notch coffee—the stronger, the better.)

I’m especially passionate about developing bright, user-friendly designs foramped-up gigs, expos, events and festivals (but I do lots of other fun stuff, too). I also specialise in reciting every Daft Punk song ever written, word for word, but that’s on a need-to-know basis.

THEY SAY A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS.

I AGREE.

Let me help you

“say” the right thing.

Perhaps you’re here because your event website needs a few tweaks or a simple layout refresh? Maybe, you’re at square one and require everything from printed posters and programs to content updates, social media images and digital ads.

Whatever the scope of your creative project, chances are you’re looking for an expert who knows what the heck they’re doing.

Someone with experience.

Someone who can make the design process easy.

Oh, and it’d sure be nice to find a specialist who genuinely cares about you and your business.

Well, guess what friend? Your search ends here.

A little more about me…

  • I was born in Penang, Malaysia, in 1988, which was a year of the Dragon. In the Chinese zodiac calendar, this is an awesome thing because a) dragons are cool, b) the number 88 is especially auspicious, and c) …dragons.

  • I got into the arts young. I started piano at four, Taekwondo at eight (martial arts is still an artform), and was even in an instrumental rock band playing the keyboards for a couple of years when I was 16 (I had to quit because I moved to Melbourne to go to uni).

  • As a teen, I wanted to be a sound engineer because I liked the idea of calling concerts “work”. Then I moved to Melbourne to study Multimedia Design (because I thought, why not, since my parents didn’t want me to go to SAE in Byron Bay haha) and after a few years attending raves and festivals, (and collecting inspiring gig flyers), I realised design was what made my heart beat the fastest.

  • My hair has only been its natural shade four times since I began colouring it in 2005. I change it up every few months, or whenever I’m feeling bored or inspired. It’s been almost every hue, but my favourite combo is orange and green (durr!).

  • I have one “colleague” – an incredibly charming English Bulldog named Walter Wombat. Note: His official title at GermyDesigns is Chief Slobber Officer, but he’ll answer to anything if you’re holding a Schmacko or tennis ball.

  • All my clothes are beige. (Obviously a lie.)

  • I was born in Penang, Malaysia, in 1988, which was also the Year of the Dragon. In the Chinese zodiac calendar, this is an awesome thing because a) dragons are lucky and cool, b) the number 88 is especially auspicious, and c) …dragons. Therefore, I am your lucky dragon designer ;)

So, what’s it like to work with me?

Am I tech-savvy? Yep! Experienced? You betcha.
Detail-oriented? I’ve built my entire professional reputation on it.
Easy to collaborate with? That too.

When it comes to design, I’m most enthusiastic about creating print and digital products for gigs, events and festivals that put user experience first. (Treating your customers right from the first glance = always a good business move.) I also love solving tricky web problems. I’m into creating vibrant, edgy and user-friendly work that ticks the boxes for my valued clients, and if music or bright, punchy colours are required, so much the better.

My mission is simple:
To work with you to communicate your vision in a wholly original, imaginative way that prioritises user experience.
I’m all about delivering what you want in a way your customers will respond to.

Whilst design does tend to overlap with marketing strategies, I am NOT a marketing specialist. I have worked with many marketing specialists and have learned many strategies from them but I DO NOT offer legit marketing advice. I am also NOT an SEO/SEM specialist, copywriter, copyeditor, proofreader or life coach.
